Expectation of pain and outcome is pain –> Endured pain twice
Expectation of pain and outcome is pleasure –> Still endured pain during anticipation
Expectation of pleasure and outcome is pain –> Endured pain once and pleasure once
Expectation of pleasure and outcome is pleasure –> Endured pleasure twice
Moral of the story: No matter what is the outcome, we are always better off expecting pleasure. Optimism always wins hands down.
